Count Your Blessings..

Sorry everyone for the lack of posts the past few days!

-----------
Your average person does not dwell on dark things, ideas or situations that could potentially happen to them. Most people carry on with their lives completely oblivious to all of the many dangers that surround them and more often than not, people have a tendency to take many simple things for granted. Most of the time you plan something and expect to execute it as planned, but sometimes, it just does not happen to work out that way. Life it seems to have it's own master plan and before you know it, you're sitting there with a stupid look on your face going, what just happened?!

My little one and i recently had one of those moments. We started off with quite a regular day. We woke up, had breakfast, played, enjoyed each other, you know, the regular old routine! I had planned on and was actually quite excited about enjoying a quiet lazy day and evening at home. Eating something hearty and delicious for dinner and watching some good old T.V. BUT. As the afternoon progressed things seemed to go slowly downhill. My little -MONSTER- started to become extremely fussy for no apparent reason. Then a girlfriend of mine called and had asked me if she could bring her two children over for be to babysit for the night because her husband was feeling severely ill and needed to be transferred to a hospital in a neighboring city, and she wanted to be with him. Of course I say yes! What kind of terrible friend would I be if i had said no? So I began to frantically clean my home, clearing the guest bedroom of random storage boxes, picking up laundry and the trail of crumbs my dearest daughter loves to leave behind.

We spoke to each other shortly afterwards and we agreed that her home is better suited for her children (equipped with toys appropriate with their age, along with their own beds) so I would instead just stay the night there and watch them. No biggie. So I quickly pack us up with things that we needed for the night, diapers, wipes, binky, blanket, Eeyore, toothbrush and a change of clothes. As i am about to step out of the door my neighbor calls me asking if I could possibly keep on eye on her child while she cleaned out the garage that her dog decided to poop all over in. She promised that it wouldn't take too long so of course I say alright and watched her. As she had promised, it did not take long at all.

Finally we got into the car and we were on our way! When I realized that I had not eaten dinner yet. So along the way I figured why not just go through a drive-thru? Of course I call my girlfriend to double check and ask her if she is in any particular rush, and she said no and go ahead and pick something up to eat. Awesome! So I kept my eyes peeled for the next fast food joint. AH-HA! Off in the distance I see a Wendy's. Perfecto.

The road that we were on was quite a busy one. Three lanes on each side of the middle turning lane. Speed limits were 45 and in some spots 50 mph. So I get into the far right lane and turn on my blinker and begin to slow down. I notice that the driveway to enter Wendy's is at quite an inconvenient spot. It was literally about a yard after a T intersection to a side street. As we were slowing down getting ready to turn into Wendy's a car on the side street pulled out a little. He stopped to look to his right, to check if he can pull into the center turn lane and go in the opposite direction that I was traveling. He had a stop sign, of course he'll stay put... right??
WRONG. As I am about to drive in front of him he punched the gas and hit us. BANG. It knocked my tiny car back about half a foot into the middle lane and i just sat in my car, with that stupid look on my face, going. "Oh my God, what just happened?"

It was a very intense and scary moment! This was the very first wreck I had ever been in. So many thoughts were buzzing around in my head. The biggest concerns I had was, Is my daughter okay? Are we safe? Quick, get her out of the car and off safely in the parking lot of the restaurant. I was so afraid the wreck would cause another wreck, I was afraid we would get rear-ended.

Looking back now, my accident was not the worst kind of wreck possible and in the grand scale of things, it was quite little. Thank God. The only damage/harm done was to our cars and all of us were safe and completely unscathed, including the other driver. My little babygirl was completely oblivious to what had happened and was just angry because she was stuck in her car seat out in the cool autumn night while we filed a police report and exchanged insurance information, etc. (all of which took about two hours, lol poor baby girl she was so tired.) I was just the only one who was emotionally a little rattled, and I admit, I did cry. The other driver was just concerned, a little angry, and very apologetic.

In the end, you couldn't have asked for a better outcome with a car wreck, everyone was OKAY. Count your blessings. Be thankful because in a split second, things can go awry and you'll be the one with that face!

Be safe everyone! God Bless!

Advice For New Army Spouses..

I was speaking with a girl friend of mine who just got married to a soldier a few days ago, btw -- Congratulations love! =)
As our conversation progressed I realized that:
1. She really doesn't know a thing about the army.
..and..
2. She has a lot of questions and is completely nervous about everything.

SO, in case any new wives are reading this, here is what I offered her, as far as advice goes.
-Don't freak out! It will be okay. You and your new hubby will work out the kinks together. Remember, communication between you two is ESSENTIAL for your relationship to work. Even more so, when you're spouse is in the service! Ask your husband about what he does. Be interested, and of course supportive. He needs you just as much as you need him. Learn all you can about everything!

-Get involved. There are so many sources of information out there, and I have realized that a lot of the times, people think you should already know everything... but. you don't!

Ask your husband to get you involved with your FRG (Family Readiness Group). It's usually a group of wives, that put together events, and share information with one another. I'm sure they will have loads of info that is relevant to just you and your husband, and it's an easy way to meet people!

Your local MWR (Morale, Welfare, Rec) Center and ACS (Army Community Service) centers also have loads upon loads of pamphlets and papers and information plus some more information, and they usually have nice people who are willing to help you and answer your questions. Ranging from financial advice, to marriage, to child care, to employment.

My Army One Source  <-- That's a good link to get you started on some information!

Best wishes to you Rachel!!! (and anyone else reading this!) xoxo!
Till next time yall!

Dinner Then Goodnight!

Tonight's dinner was macaroni with sauteed red bell peppers, sausage, onions and sugar snap peas. <-- pretty easy. All you've got to do is make your macaroni however you like. saute some sausage, onions, bell peppers, and sugar snap peas, with some salt and pepper to taste, dash of parsley, paprika and garlic powder. Then add together. Yum!

Ohhh goodness.... I feel so tired even though I really didn't do a thing today! It's crazy. My house is also a DISASTER. I would LOVE for me to just go to bed tonight, wake up tomorrow morning and everything is picked up and put away. Oh, and swept, mopped and vacuumed.

My darling daughter has also left a beautiful trail of cracker crumbs across my tile floor, which after I am done writing I will have to go sweep up.

LOL, I feel like I am constantly cleaning or picking up. IT never ends..... -insert mournful wail- haha. Oh, the life of a stay at home mom! Who wants to either be my nanny or maid?!?! I'll be taking applications. Serious inquiries only. I will pay you in food, and you can live in my spare bedroom. Any takers??? lol.

Ohh... Alright. Enough procrastinating. Time to go do some chores, then I will put my feet up and watch some television, and possibly fall asleep doing so.
Gnight yall!
XO

Today So Far..

Hey readers! Today so far has been a pretty relaxing day! The little one and I woke up fairly late in the morning (yay for sleeping in!), then we went to out for a brisk morning walk and yoga! (I gotta get in shape before the Hubby comes home from the deployment!! Lol)

Had a late breakfast, and fed my little BooBoo some oatmeal with apples and cinnamon! She loves that.

Then we played in the living room before my BELOVED iPhone came back to me! Lol. Nice and repaired! So we had to go get my sim card for that to work again, and also pick up some odd and ends at the grocery store.

My day became infinitely better when I saw they had my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE seasonal coffee in stock! Millstone's Pumpkin Spice coffee! So I bought myself a couple of bags and came home! :)

So we came home, put groceries away and brewed a pot!

What a nice relaxing day.

I also received a few emails from the husband, and a nice surprise phone call from my Auntie L! :)

What can I say? I am blessed.

Until next time! Xoxo!

Infant food recipe!
Baked apples!
Preheat oven to 400
Core an apple, we like Fuji apples. Leave skin on.
Rub the inside with some butter and dust the inside with some cinnamon.

Place your apples into a baking pan that's filled with about an inch of water and bake for about 30 minutes or whenever your apples are tender!

Once they're done you can prepare them however your baby likes them! :)

BooBoo likes them slightly pureed with little soft chunks and mixed into her baby oatmeal!! Enjoy!!!

AW! YAY!!

TOTAL SURPRISE TODAY!
My AWESOME husband who still manages to be super super awesome while deployed told me today that there is a birthday present waiting to be picked up for me! How sweet?!

makes my day wonderful and i am just so excited!! WONDER WHAT IT IS!!!!!!!!

I LOVE YOU!!!

Woe Is Me... I Rely On My Phone TOO Much...

UGH!

So I had to ship off my Iphone today for repairs and I've had to downgrade to my old blackberry. Which completely just doesn't seem to want to do anything! I can not connect to my wifi, I can't check out my emails, I can't log into Facebook, or even log into anything so I could chat with my husband if he were online!!!

MY SOCIAL LIFE HAS DIED!!!!! haha, I am completely reliant on my IPhone and all of its functions and now I am left without it! What in the world am I supposed to do?! Woe is me...

What is a military wife supposed to do without her key tool for life? haha.

Oh well, I've just got to grin and bear it for the next few days, hopefully they don't take forever to send me back my phone! -fingers crossed-

On other things... I am extremely tired today. I stayed up sort of late the past few days and I guess I am just paying for it now. Which really really is not benefiting my current mood!

Ohh... i think i will go and take a nap while the little one naps herself!
xo till next time!

Ahh, Mommy Time..

What a day. Nothing too interesting happened. Just a regular old day filled with the same things that I normally do. Wake up to my beautiful daughter who is filled with giggles and smiles. Have a nice breakfast. Pick up a few things here and there.

There definitely was a plus to my day! I had a chance to chat with my wonderful husband. That was nice. Of course it doesn't come close to a chat face to face, but you make due with what you've got and be thankful. We spoke to each other for quite a bit!

I look forward to hearing from him. It makes the day go by faster. Cheers you up when you are sad and of course, reminds you that you are loved, by that special someone.

Then before I knew it, it was time to say good-bye, and then dinner.

Tonight's dinner was oven baked chicken and green bean casserole. Yum!
I'll stick the recipe at the end of this. =) for any of you who want to try it out. .. that is if anyone is actually reading this! haha.

Oh and this also happened...
One of her FAVORITE skills to test out is her ability to open containers and dumping them out on the floor. OF COURSE everything tastes better once it has been seasoned with floor! DUH.

Then it was my little booger's bathtime, which of course, is her favorite time! We splashed and had a bit of fun then it is off to bed for her!

And now, it is finally some quiet Mommy time.
It always seems to me that in the evenings, when the house is quiet, the lights downstairs have been turned off, the leftovers put away, and it is just me alone on the computer aimlessly surfing the net is when I miss my husband the most. I miss those nights where we would cuddle together on the couch and watch T.V. or a movie. Or just... relax with each other. Two more months, and I will have that again. Hopefully my days until then will be just as quick as today was.

Well my lovely readers.. It is time for Mommy here to take a long hot bath and maybe accompanied with a glass of wine! =) Until next time...

Oven Baked Chicken.
Preheat your oven to 365F
Crush up a ziplock bag of French's Fried Onions
Coat your chicken breast with your fav. BBQ sauce
Cover your chicken with the crushed up onions

Line a pan with foil, and bake for about 40 minutes or until your chicken is cooked through.
Quick, Simple, Tasty. ^ Love recipes like those, when I've got my hands full with a 10 month old who wants to get into EVERYTHING! lol.

Beautiful Morning!

Good morning! The sun is shining and the coffee is brewing. Biscuits are in the oven and my sweet baby girl is on the floor banging on the floor with a measuring cup. I was in the middle of cracking eggs into a bowl so I can scramble them, when the thought crossed my mind. These are going to be some of my daughter's favorite or cherished memories when she's a grown woman. Just like I have tender memories of being a child making pancakes with my dad Sunday morning.

Or waking up in the morning and smelling coffee, that my dad brewed. I remember that aroma.

It's funny how things.. Carry over into the next generation, to the next and on.

Hmmm ... Speaking of coffee! Breakfast is calling my name!

Pumpkin Pie

Hello, so I have decided to begin a blog for myself and anyone else who will listen. I am fairly new to blogging but hey I figure if I can sit down and write in my journal about things I could just as well do it online. Besides, typing is so much faster than pen. =)

I decided that the title fits for today, it IS October and it IS that time of year where peoples homes become festive and fun. People are selling those candles that smell of holiday spices and other delicious aromas. Halloween decorations are coming out and soon Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Today I decided I wanted to bake a pumpkin pie, so my home is filled with the delicious aromas! Who doesn't love that smell while its baking!? Now it is cooling and I am hoping to be able to have a slice tonight before I go off to bed. :) YUM!

As many of you probably have noticed, my blog name is, A Yellow Ribbon. Yes, that is correct my dearies. I am an Army wife. Currently my wonderful soldier and I have a beautiful 10 month old daughter, and we live in a wonderful home. Being an Army wife is definitely interesting and it has many obstacles, as well as LOOOOONNNGG stretches of being alone and idle, which is another reason for me to start this!

Currently my soldier is deployed, and I am counting the days until he comes back home. Supposedly rumor has it that he will be coming back home in a couple of months. (If we're lucky. If any of you are army wives you know that many things are said but that doesn't mean it WILL happen at the given date and time.) So, lets keep our fingers crossed that he will make it back for Christmas!

Well, that pie seems to be calling my name.. Write again soon! xo, to any of you out there reading this!

P.S. I leave you with this...
"
Around her hair she wore a yellow ribbon
She wore it in the springtime
In the merry month of May
And if you ask her why the heck she wore it
She wore it for her soldier who was far far away

Far away, far away
She wore it for her soldier
Who was far, far away
Around the block she pushed a baby carriage
She pushed it in the springtime
In the Merry month of May
And if you ask her why the heck she pushed it
She pushed it for her soldier who was far far away

Far away, far away
She pushed it for her soldier
Who was far, far away
Behind the door her daddy kept a shotgun
He kept it in the springtime
In the merry month of May
And if you ask him why the heck he kept it
He kept it for her soldier who was far far away

Far away, far away
He kept it for her soldier
Who was far, far away
On the grave she laid the pretty flowers
She laid them in the springtime
In the merry month of May
And if you asked her why the heck she laid them
She laid them for her soldier who was far far away

Far away, far away
She laid them for her soldier
Who was far, far away   "
